This project is complete.
1604 from Bandera Rd. to Culebra Rd.
This project will upgrade Loop
1604 at this location from a four-lane divided highway to a four-lane,
expressway. This includes adding overpasses at Braun Rd.,
New Gilbeau Rd., and Shaenfield Rd.,
and entrance and exit ramps. There was an option for TxDOT to add
the interchange at SH 151 to this project which was executed.
More info on that project here.
project will help: Staggering ongoing growth in this area of San
Antonio necessitates upgrading this
roadway. Although the superstreet and associated improvements helped significantly
reduce congestion, this area still experiences frequent backups due to
the signalized intersections, especially at Braun. The new
overpasses at the previously signalized intersections will provide for
continuous free-flowing traffic through the corridor. The four expressway lanes are anticipated to handle the projected traffic in this corridor for the next 20 years.
Timeline: Construction began in March 2014
and is on-track to be complete by mid-summer 2016. The new
southbound lanes opened on April 23rd. The northbound lanes opened May 12th. Click
